SW and ST Commissions

I've been fortunate enough, over the last couple of years, to have found a couple of people that have come to me for commissions a semi-regular basis. One of those is Jared, who I met at iMagicon in Minot in a couple of years ago. Jared is a cosplayer and enjoys getting pieces which show him in the costumes he wears. In the last few months he has commissioned me on four different pieces. One of the really interesting things is that they are both Star Wars and Star Trek drawings. In a few of these he also has some of his cosplaying friends included.

It seems that typically fandom chooses one over the other, but I'm glad that he is very open with his admiration for both.

Not-daily, daily sketches

I'm working on getting in the habit of creating warm up sketches and drawings, but I haven't been perfect in this goal. I'm happy with the results so far, though. It is helpful and it means I have somethings to post online regularly as I work on the other projects that aren't able to be posted yet.

The Wolverine drawing I did last week got me on a bit of an X-men kick. Here are a few others that I've finished recently.

Wolverine

The big news in my life is that I - after almost fifteen years - have quit my fire alarm sales job. I'm going to draw full time for as long as I can. Hopefully that will be for the rest of it, but we will see. I'm sure I will post more about that soon, but for now, here is a drawing of Wolverine I did today.

I'm trying to get in the habit of drawing and sketching before I begin the "real" artwork for the day. I will do my best to keep up with it, but I'm sure there will be days were time restraints keep me from following through.

2020 resolutions!

It's that time of year again! The days are short, the weather is shitty, what better way to boost yourself out of your seasonal depression than by making unrealistic expectations for yourself. I wanted to set goals for myself that are attainable, so no weight loss resolutions for this guy!

• Get a ghost pregnant.
• Develop a vaccine for Skittlespox.
• Become physically 2 dimensional, but emotionally 4 dimensional.
• Stop being polite and start getting real. Also, stop being contrite and start eating veal.
• Start emitting light.
• Design and build a better gazebo.
• Qualify for a space ship loan.
• Eat a mascot (so I can assume his/her powers).
• Hobo tattoos - giving them to or getting them from? TBD.
• Something called, "Bradical Acceptance."
• Use my life as the basis of a one woman show. (Possibly called "Bradical Accpetance?")
• Finish my spec script for "Saving Private Ryan 2: Electric Boogaloo."
• Complete my master's degree in gangsta rap.
• New career possibility: dog food taster.
• Become the leading authority of Augmented Reality Journey Building in the Montana Cordillera region of Canada.
• Get dangerously mixed up in the underground world of semi-professional tickle fighting.
• Make 4 right turns for the worst.
• Eat more turquoise.
• Officiate a donkey funeral and a donkey wedding in the same afternoon.
• Have a new color named after me.
• Nudie Suits. All day, every day. Even to bed.
• It's all true. All of it.
• Relaunch of my charity: Sheep Placenta Pills for the Affluent.
• Maybe not run so much, but lightly jog, or have a brisk walk for Congress.
• To always finish my

• Act like a grown up and start eating more vegetables (this one may be the most difficult on this list).
• Find out what that smell is in my fridge.
• Quit my pretty good paying job with nice benefits, thirteen holidays, and four weeks of vacation to begin a life of freelance artwork.
• Two words: learn how to count.
• Crowdfund a 40 foot dancing and perfume spewing hologram of Henry Cyril Paget, 5th Marquess of Anglesey.
• Become hopelessly addicted to naked yoga.
• Be missed. By a person, a thing, whatever.

Captain Marvel

Over the last few years I've incorporated digital methods and tools into my artistic process with increased frequency. One of the tools I use most is Clip Studio Paint. This has been my go-to drawing program. Recently I've been introduced to a new feature in CSP called "colorize" (thanks, Phillip Sevy!).

I do very little with color at this time in my career. I hope to start doing more in the coming months and years, but my plate is a bit full to give it any additional attention. The colorize tool is intriguing. I don't see it providing an avenue for a coloring option that is equal - or even close - to hiring a talented professional, still there is some potential here.

This is the coloring I created with CSP for a Captain Marvel drawing of mine. The coloring phase of this took less than ten minutes to do:

The "blur" around the character is something I don't think I'll be able to keep from happening. I could clean it up if I had to, but I think it's kind of cool. The color of her face got washed out for some reason. Not sure how to fix that. Alot of trial and error head of me, though.

New website!

I have a new website up and running: bradthingvold.art. Yep, that's right. "dot art." At this time, the site looks exactly like the site for my webcomic, "Bingo!" That site will be disappearing soon, though.

Fargo-Moorhead Comic Con

I'll have a table at this year's Fargo-Moorhead Comic Con. The event takes place Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Ramada in Fargo. I'll be selling original art, prints, comics, and some exciting new merchandise related to my webcomic, "Bingo!"

Looooong overdue post. The second finished page from my webcomic, Bingo! The site still only has the first four pages posted (this and three others); but, I should be getting the next six page story online soon. Exciting, right!? Maybe? I hope?

We are Venom!

I had a table at iMagicon in Minot, ND about a month ago and was commissioned to draw Venom. I didn't get it finished before the convention ended so I had a chance to put in more detail than I typically would for a commission.

Bingo!

A while back I teased a new project I've been working on. I've been slowly getting the word out at some recent conventions and, as of two days ago, announced it on Twitter and Facebook. It's called "Bingo!" and is a Western (think Weird West subgenre) starring a couple of mispaired people using each other for their own benefit. Hilarity ensues...hopefully.

New project

First post for a new project I'm working on and co-created with some friends.  Not officially titled yet so I'm going to hold off spilling the beans on too many details.  A quick summary is that it's a comedic western with supernatural elements.

Luigi as Green Arrow

I had the pleasure of setting up a table last weekend here in my hometown of Fargo, ND.  One of the commissions requested of me was of Luigi cosplaying as Green Arrow.  Fun idea.  Instead of trying to fit a character of such a traditional "cartoony" appearance into my own style I took this as an opportunity to try something different.  The folks who commissioned the piece seemed genuinely pleased so that's the important thing but I am quite happy myself.  In hindsight there are some things that I would have done differently but, that's common.

Darkseid

As I get more comfortable working digitally I'm finding it fun and challenging to broaden my horizons and try some new things.  Due in part to my general unease with inking I typically create my pencils very tight.  I'd rather have a clear understanding of my intent when inking rather than having to interpret the meaning.  Weird to say since all of the steps are my own but, whatever...
